San Bernardino County Supervisor Neil Derry is being accused of laundering a campaign contribution through a political action committee.  Charges were filed on Tuesday by the California Attorney General.

ndlegal333.jpg In one part of the complaint Derry is accused of hiding a campaign donation of $5000 from a developer in June 2007.

Derry has been under scrutiny since February 10, 2010 when former Attorney General Jerry Brown filed bribery charges against public officials in a $102 million corruption case allegedly based in San Bernardino County.

Derry, was served with a copy of a felony complaint at his office in the Government Center in San Bernardino, but was not taken into custody.

Derry is accused of one felony charge of perjury, one felony charge of offering a false or forged document, and one misdemeanor count of failing to report a contribution.

Derry will be arraigned June 9, in San Bernardino Superior Court.

The following statement was issued by Supervisors Chair Josie Gonzales:

Today’s news concerning Neil Derry is disturbing. However, as always, my focus will be upon faithfully executing the duties of my office without distraction.

I will not allow the actions of any one individual to define this County. I won’t allow them to reflect upon or discourage the decent people who work here.  I won’t allow them to disrupt or create doubts about the vital, first-rate services that we provide for the public.

The Board of Supervisors has no information about Mr. Derry’s legal situation beyond what has been filed with the court. The Board will discuss what little information it has with County Counsel in closed session at the earliest convenience to determine how Mr. Derry’s situation might affect the County, if at all.

The County will of course fully cooperate with the Attorney General’s Office and provide any assistance that’s requested without hesitation.
