On Thursday, November 11, trout season kicked off at regional parks across Riverside and San Bernardino County.
The regional parks in the Inland Empire include Cucamonga-Guasti, Ontario Glen Helen, San Bernardino Prado, Chino Yucaipa, Yucaipa Mojave Narrows, and Victorville.
The first stocking began November 10, and stockings will continue every Thursday through March 31, 2011. If a national holiday falls on a Thursday, the stocking will take place the Wednesday before the holiday.
Riverside County’s regional parks will also be holding a series of Trout Derbies, beginning on November 20 at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino.
Participants will have the chance to compete for a $500 cash prize for catching the largest trout. The trout derby season will run through March 12, 2011.
Vehicle entry into the park is $7 on weekdays and $10 on weekends and holidays. Fishing is $7. A state fishing license is required and may be purchased at the park.
Along with the trout derbies, the regional parks will also be offering a series of six Junior Fishing Workshops to children ages 5 to 11. Experienced fishermen will teach children the fundamentals of fishing. The first Junior Fishing Workshop will be held on Saturday, December 11, at Mojave Narrows Regional Park, in Victorville.
Registration for the Junior Fishing Workshops is $5 per child and a $10 vehicle entry charge at the park. All equipment is provided. There is a 100-person limit for each workshop.
A junior trout derby for children participating in the workshops will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park, in Ontario. For a complete list of workshops, dates, and other information, visit www.sbcounty.gov/parks.
