Redlands Firefighters battled a residential structure fire on South Buena Vista Street Sunday evening.
Firefighters received reports of the structure fire in the 30 block of South Buena Vista Street at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 14, when the residents of the home, a family of four returned home to discover their house on fire.
The fire began in an upstairs bedroom closet and spread to the second floor of the 2,000-square-foot home. When firefighters arrived they found heavy smoke filling the residential street.
Firefighters made their way to the second floor where they encountered heavy heat and smoke. Crews outside the home ventilated the roof allowing firefighters to make an aggressive attack on the blaze, containing it to the upper floor. The fire was under control in about 20 minutes.
All 19 on-duty fire personnel responded, including crews on four engines, one fire truck, a medic squad and the duty battalion chief. Fire crews from Highland and Mentone provided coverage to the City during the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire and smoke damage to the structure is estimated to be $90,000 and another $80,000 in contents was damaged.
One bystander received minor injuries when she fell while taking pictures of the fire.
