People in Riverside can now sign up to get reverse 911 services on their cell phones or through email.
Reverse 911 is an automated notification system that sends messages to a home phone, cell phone, or email when an emergency happens, such as a gas leak or a fire.
People receive a message describing the situation, along with other important information such as evacuation routes or safety tips. The messages can be sent to the entire city or to just the affected neighborhoods.
“This is a simple system that ensures residents know if and when there is an emergency and how to deal with it,” said Mayor Ronald Loveridge, in a press release. “Everyone should take advantage of this service.”
The service is free and can be accessed at the City of Riverside’s web site.
