Powerful Hurricane Earl churns past the Bahamas toward the eastern U.S. seaboard.
Statement on Hurricane Earl issued by the National Weather Service:
Hurricane Earl is expected to turn north over the next few days as it moves along the east coast of the United States.
Uncertainties exist in both the track and intensity of Earl as it moves toward the northeast U.S. It is likely that Earl will remain out at sea. However, latest information from computer model guidance combined with the expertise of the National Hurricane Center indicate the Downeast Coast and Gulf of Maine will feel at least some impact from the storm.
The primary concerns and possible impacts are;
The threat of Tropical Storm Force Winds over coastal waters.
Wave Height and long period swell in Maine coastal waters.
High surf along the Downeast coast that may bring dangerous, large breaking waves.
Dangerous rip currents along the shoreline.
It is important to understand that there still exist moderate uncertainties with this storm.
