California Baptist University’s Wendy Rice has died after a collision with a CBU van and an SUV in Mammoth. It happened Monday evening, around 8:00 p.m.
Rice, 35, of Corona, was with several cheer-team members of the Riverside-based private college.
The student teams were in the eastern Sierra Nevada region for a training camp. Rice was reportedly in a van that was struck by an SUV, according to the California Highway Patrol. Three deaths have been confirmed, in addition to Rice, two passengers in the SUV also perished.

The crash happened on the northbound direction of U.S. Highway 395. A total of 16 were injured. The crash happened in Inyo County.
The cause is being investigated. There is no early evidence suggesting alcohol or drugs were related.
Seriously injured students include Marissa Benson of Gresham, Ore.; Alicia Catamese of Corona; and Allissa Neimeyer of Temecula, who underwent surgery, according to the CHP.
Six students were treated for minor injuries and released. They’ve been identifed as Jennifer McGuire, 17, of Stevenson Ranch; Jonathan Monteon, 18, of Chino; Jonathan Hernandez, 18, of Moreno Valley, and Hanna Ingulsrud, 19, of Ontario.
