As Riverside swelters under triple-digit heat, the city-owned utility has seen a record level of energy consumption. Riverside Public Utilities generates an enormous amount of power locally, with the use of solar panels installed privately, and by the city.

A milestone was reached last year when Casa Blanca Library reopened after an extensive interior remodeling. The project included a new 54.88 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system is affixed to the top of the parking structure.
