Drivers ticketed for ignoring traffic signals at railroad crossings

News headline from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department:

On Wednesday, August 25, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., the Coachella Police assisted the Union Pacific Railroad Police with an enforcement program in the area of Avenue 52 and Highway 111 in Coachella.

The program targeted violators who ignored traffic control signals at railroad crossings.  Officers stopped 15 vehicles, issued a total of 10 citations and arrested 3 subjects as follows:

–7 Drivers received citations for failing to stop for a railroad signal
–3 Drivers received citations for failing to stop at limit line of stop signal at a railroad crossing
–4 Subjects were arrested and received citations for trespassing-interfering with railroad operations

The Coachella Police Department, in conjunction with the Union Pacific Railroad Police will regularly conduct enforcement actions and programs focusing upon educating the public in the dangers of failing to obey the traffic signals at railroad crossings.
