Man dies in single-vehicle crash on Temescal Canyon Road on Saturday

News headline from the California Highway Patrol: 

On August 20th at approximately 1:24 p.m., a male motorist , 70, of Murrieta, was driving a 2006 Nissan 350Z traveling northbound on I-15, one mile north of Temescal Canyon Road (Uninc near Corona).  The vehicle was traveling in the #1 lane at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle suddenly made a hard turn to the left and traveled off of the roadway where it struck a utility pole.  The pole, located near Dawson Canyon and Temescal Canyon Road, was completely severed and resulted in a small brush fire.

The driver was pronounced deceased on scene.  He has been identified as Dominic R. Mandella, Jr., age 69, by the Riverside County Coroner.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is investigating the cause of death.  Any witnesses to the collision are asked to call the investigating officer, Officer Slatlem at (951) 637-8000.
