News headline from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department:
On Saturday, August 21, at 12:44 a.m., deputies received a report that Casey Demorest, 36, had been arguing with his wife and Demorest was suicidal. When the deputies arrived on scene they were told Demorest had several large knives in the residence, at the 1300 Block of East Marshall Boulevard, in San Bernardino.
Demorest was also described as an ex-Marine with knowledge on using knives. When the deputies contacted the suspect he had a large knife in each hand and allegedly would not comply with the deputies commands to drop the knives. A taser was deployed, but it was ineffective and the suspect charged the deputies with the knives.
Deputies fired their weapons at the suspect. The suspect was struck by the deputy’s rounds and Demorest died at the scene.
San Bernardino Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives were called to the location and are conducting an investigation into the shooting.
Anyone with any information is urged to call Detective Steve Pennington or Sergeant Don Lupear at (909) 387-3598.
