Hiker rescued after ride to the mountain on Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

News headline from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department:

On Tuesday, August 17, at 2:45 p.m., deputies from the Cabazon Station of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway regarding a male hiker who became ill and was in distress on the Sky Line Trail area of the wilderness.

The lone hiker left the Palm Springs Museum at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 17, for a day hike to the summit of the mountain. The hiker was an experienced, having previously been in the United States Army and had reached the summit on a prior occasion. Around noon, the hiker became nauseous and became sick. The hiker contacted his wife who called for help.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit responded to the approximate vicinity of the lost hiker. The helicopter was able to find the hiker and hoist him from the mountain into the cabin of the helicopter.  He was identified as Brandon Herrington, 28, of San Diego.
