News headline from the California Highway Patrol:
On August 19th at approximately 11:20 p.m., three big rigs owned by All American Asphalt company, all traveling eastbound SR-91 between Adams Street and 14th Street in Riverside, were attacked by an unknown suspect who fired unknown projectiles and broke passenger door windows. CHP officers responded to the freeway and took a preliminary report.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., another All American Vehicle was fired upon while traveling northbound I-215 at Central Avenue. It became clear that the company, for unknown reasons at the time, was being targeted.
The Officers solicited assistance from the Riverside Area “Special Investigations Unit”. Investigator Perez and Investigator Bozyk immediately began further research. A possible suspect was identified to be Steven Pingrey, 44, of Riverside.
On August 20th, Investigators Perez and Bozyk questioned Pingrey who eventually confessed to firing upon four All American Asphalt vehicles.
Mr. Pingrey is a former employee of All American Asphalt; his motive for the attacks is still under investigation. The weapon used in the attacks was a high power slingshot, which he fired while driving alongside the victim vehicles. The weapon was recovered at Mr. Pingrey’s home.
Mr. Pingrey was placed under arrest for Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Vandalism. He was booked at Robert Presley Detention Center with a bail set at $25,000.00.
It is believed the prompt investigation and arrest of Mr. Pingrey prevented additional attacks on company vehicles, which could have resulted in serious injury or death.
If anyone has additional information regarding the matter, Investigator Perez and Investigator Bozyk can be reached at the CHP Riverside Area office. (951) 637-8000
