Woman dies in 2:00 a.m. crash on San Timoteo Road

Redlands news headline from the Redlands Police Department:

A 43-year-old Mentone woman was killed and a 15-year-old girl hospitalized after a single-car collision on San Timoteo Canyon Road early Saturday morning.

Police traffic investigators say the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed in a Mazda Miata convertible at about 2:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, when she lost control of the vehicle on a curve and left the roadway. The car struck a power pole, shearing it off, before coming to rest in a field a short distance off the road.

The first officer on scene attempted CPR on the driver until paramedics arrived and she was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old passenger was transported to the hospital with a broken collar bone.

Southern California Edison crews were called to the scene to repair the damaged power pole. San Timoteo Canyon Road was expected to be closed from Alessandro to Live Oak Canyon Road until early afternoon.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. Traffic investigators say alcohol and a high rate of speed were factors in the collision.
