I remember first hearing about the concept of Earth Day. I’ll admit, at first blush it seemed a like an idea that might wouldn’t gain much steam. The idea has been around since 1970, but it didn’t seem to enter social consciousness until about 5 years ago.

There’s a remarkable wave of public interest in conservation. At InstantRiverside.com some of the most popular stories we cover involve ways people can “go green.” I was wrong to think it wouldn’t catch on.

Green efforts have become a part of our local culture; some people adopt the idea to save money, others are enthusiastic about going green because
it’s part of a larger effort to be Earth-friendly. Regardless of the motivation, it has been branded into our lives.

This week you will see an emphasis on “green” stories. We are working to share the different ways people across the Inland Empire are doing their
part. Whether it’s replacing light bulbs, changing your landscaping, buying a hybrid, or reducing your energy and water use– we can all do our part, and it adds up fast.

On Earth Day, April 22, InstantRiverside.com will present a special half-hour program about local efforts to “go green.” It will premier on
KVCR-TV April 22 at 10:00 p.m., with two encore broadcasts April 24, at 5:30p.m.; and April 25 at 2:00p.m.

The show is titled 2010: Instant IE Our Green Economy. We are focusing on things everyone can do, big and small. Our goal is to highlight how we use power and water, and how even simple changes will save you money, and help ensure future water and power security in the Inland Empire.

KVCR-TV is broadcast in high definition on Channel 24.1, it can also be seen on all cable systems on Channel 24, along with Dish Network and Direct TV.
