Nine arrests in Redlands DUI checkpoint; one man ran and was captured

DUI checkpoint news from the Redlands Police Department:

A sobriety checkpoint and focused patrols Saturday night funded by a state Office of Traffic Safety grant resulted in nine arrests, including one following a short foot pursuit.

The checkpoint along the southbound lanes of Alabama Street between Park and Orange avenues began at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 24, and continued until about 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning. In addition, officers on patrol, paid for by the state grant, focused on potential DUI drivers in other areas.

During the checkpoint Marc Anthony Rush, 24, of Corona, drove through the checkpoint cones before jumping out of his vehicle and fleeing on foot. With the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s air support helicopter, police located Rushhiding in nearby bushes. Rush had been driving on a suspended license and had additional warrants for his arrest.

An additional six people were arrested for driving under the influence; one person was arrested for drug possession. Another was found walking on a freeway onramp while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
