KCBS-KCAL TV cuts helicopter-pilot reporter Larry Welk

welk22.jpg Larry Welk, the airborne reporter and pilot for KCAL-KCBS-TV, was laid off on Friday.  Rumors of Welk’s departure had been swirling among media circles over the weekend.

Welk confirmed the news saying “It’s true. It is not my choice. New management has made a decision,” according to Welk.

Welk is a grandson of Lawrence Welk, from “The Lawrence Welk Show,” which continues to enjoy popularity on PBS.

KCBS-KCAL-TV has made numerous staff reductions this year, and during 2009.  Click here to learn more about the departure of Johnny Mountain, Suzanne Rico, Mia Lee, Rick Chambers, Harold Greene, Ann Martin, and others.

KCAL-KCBS-TV operate under a combined newsroom known as a duopoly.  The stations cover the Inland Empire with reporter Greg Mills, however his biography was removed from the KCAL-KCBS websites on Friday.
