Riverside news headline from the Riverside Police Department:
On Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at approximately 11:08 p.m., Riverside police responded to a theft call near the Riverside Plaza. Three juveniles were subsequently arrested for stealing Christmas decorations during the evening hours.
One of the victim’s neighbors observed the three juveniles take a Christmas display from his yard. This neighbor followed the juvenile suspects and called 911 to report the incident. Officers detained a 16 year old male, a 17 year old female and a 16 year old female. The juveniles had numerous Christmas displays in their possession.
Based on the investigation by patrol officers and detectives, it is believed the displays were taken over the past several days from yards and exterior areas of residences.
The value amount of the property has not been determined at this time. Five victims have been identified and their property has been returned. The owner(s) of the rest of the property have not been identified at this time.
The juveniles were released to their parents and Juvenile Petitions will be submitted to Riverside County Juvenile Probation for the theft charges.
There are still unidentified victims of these thefts. City residents that believe they are a victim of a similar crime are asked to contact Detective Chad Collopy at (951) 826-8718.
