Nellie Lassey Lang

nellie_lang.jpg Nellie Lassey Lang (90), a twenty-nine year resident of Hemet, California passed away Saturday, June 27 at her home.  Nellie was born in Craig, Colorado, September 26, 1918.

She and her husband, Joe, lived in Temple City, California for thirty-five years, where they raised four children.  In both Temple City and Hemet she was a member of the Methodist Church, serving in many capacities, most recently as president for United Methodist Women.  She enjoyed RV treks with her husband throughout the US to visit family and friends, as well as trips abroad.  She was a skilled seamstress, making clothing for her children and herself for over sixty years.

Nellie was the 2004 Hemet-San Jacinto ‘Old Olympics’ Ladies Cribbage Champion.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Joseph W. Lang, of Hemet; children, Richard Lang of Tucson, Arizona; JoNell Hjelsand of San Gabriel; and Bonnie Beland of Hemet.  Grandchildren, Maj. Christine Lang-Navarro, M.D. of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Angela Sweet of Port Hueneme; and Lauren Beland of Pasadena.  Great grandson, Andrew Sweet of Port Hueneme.  Brother, Norman Lassey of Brawley, and sister, Betty Weeks of Tucson, Arizona.  Son, James Warner Lang, preceded her in death.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hemet United Methodist Church Youth Fund.

Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Jones Mortuary & Cremations Inc., 1501 W. Florida Avenue, Hemet, California.  Memorial service will be at Hemet United Methodist Church, 530 S. Buena Vista, Hemet, Monday, July 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM.  Private interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, California.
