Lately I’ve noticed something different happening on the morning show at KGGI-FM. The light-hearted morning team has been talking a lot about politics and the economy. Wednesday’s morning show included numerous mentions about the mortgage-bailout plan.
Later in the day it became the dominant news story: McCain suspended his campaign and President Bush addressed the nation on the subject.

During a recent visit to their studio, I watched the frenzied activity that most listeners never see or hear. Between songs, Jeff Pope and Evelyn Erives are busy. They are constantly fine-tuning their show and focusing on listener feedback.
When the last ratings were released, KGGI retained its top rank. There’s a reason for its success, and it seems it’s not about buying more billboards than the competition.

It appears the secret to KGGI’s success is that the station is fiercely loyal to Riverside and the Inland Empire, and they are talking about the hot-button subjects that are on residents’ minds.
