A fire near Big Bear is at 100 acres and growing, according to InciWeb, an interagency wildland-fire information system.
Some 300 firefighters, including four airtankers and four helicopters, were on scene as of 5:30 p.m., according to InciWeb.
The blaze was probably started by a lightning strike. State Route 18 is closed indefinitely between Snow Valley and Big Bear Dam near Lake Arrowhead.
According to the California Highway Patrol, smoke was reported just before 12:30 p.m.; the road was shut down just after 1 p.m.
The only structure evacuated is the Butler Peak lookout tower.

Earlier in the day, another fire briefly caused a Sig Alert in Devore at Cajone Boulevard and Devore Road; that was initially reported at 10:47 a.m. as “screaming chicken on fire.”
