INSTANT BULLETIN: RIVERSIDE D.A. HAS FILED CHARGES IN STREET RACING DEATH.

THE RIVERSIDE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE IS FILING CHARGES AGAINST A 16-YEAR OLD. THE TEENAGER IS ACCUSED OF BEING BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR INVOLVED IN A DEADLY STREET RACING ACCIDENT. IT HAPPENED SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2007 IN THE 11PM HOUR.

HE WILL BE CHARGED WITH ONE COUNT OF VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER, AND THREE COUNTS OF STREET RACING. HE IS CURRENTLY BEING CHARGED AS A MINOR, AND THE CASE IS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE JUVENILE COURT. HIS FIRST COURT APPEARANCE WILL BE AT 8:30AM THURSDAY MORNING.

THE RIVERSIDE DISTRICT ATTORNEY WILL ALSO PETITION FOR WHAT IS KNOWN AS A 707-HEARING. THEY WILL ASK THE JUDGE TO DETERMINE IF THE 16-YEAR OLD SHOULD BE TRIED AS AN ADULT, IN RIVERSIDE SUPERIOR COURT. THE NAME OF THIS DEFENDANT IS KNOWN, AND HAS BEEN PUBLISHED BY OTHER NEW ORGANIZATIONS. “INSTANT RIVERSIDE” WILL NOT REVEAL HIS NAME UNTIL A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE REGARDING HIS TRIAL STATUS AS AN ADULT OR JUVENILE.

THIS IS SIGNIFICANT TO THE CASE. IF THE TEENAGER IS TRIED AS AN ADULT, AND IS CONVICTED AS CHARGED, HE FACES 13-YEARS IN PRISON. IF HIS CASE REMAINS IN JUVENILE COURT, AND HE IS CONVICTED AS A MINOR, THE PENALTY RANGES FROM PROBATION TO CONFINEMENT AT THE CALIFORNIA YOUTH AUTHORITY UNTIL AGE 25.

RIVERSIDE POLICE SAY THE STREET RACING INCIDENT RESULTED IN ONE DEATH, AND LEFT THREE PEOPLE WITH CRITICAL INJURIES. THE CRASH HAPPENED IN THE AREA OF TYLER AND EUREKA. A 14-YEAR OLD, CARLOS ULYSSES CISNEROS, WAS KILLED IN THE CRASH. HE DIED OF HIS INJURIES AT RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AT 7:55 MONDAY MORNING.

THE VEHICLE INVOLVED WAS A HONDA ACCORD. RIVERSIDE POLICE DETECTIVES HAVE SAID THAT SEVEN PEOPLE, MINORS, WERE IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. THE DRIVER MAY HAVE BEEN RACING ANOTHER VEHICLE. REPORTS FROM WITNESSES PLACE THEIR SPEED AT 100 MILES-PER-HOUR.
